Autumn was tired, and with a very good reason. Firstly, she hadnt slept properly in the last two nights. Jack had been restless which in turn meant she had been awake. And secondly she'd been in the first stages of a slow labour for the last fourteen hours. There was nothing they could do other than wait, but the waiting was frustraing and right now she lay in bed, her folded arms over her eyes and tears steadily rolling down her cheeks. Not that she'd have anyone know that. Because for the last two hours she'd insisted being on her own. She'd promised an over anxious Vik that she'd call him if anything channged, and there realy was nothing he could do right now, and her parents were milling around in the living room. It was the first time either of them had been to Vik's place- which was a barrel of laughs in itself.
"Come on Jackie." She murmured into the silence. "Please, its not fair anymore."
But Jack didn't seem to be having any of it.
Letting out a soft groan as her body contracted, Tam moved to her side, drawing her legs up as close as she could with her ready to burst baby bump. She'd never concentrated on breathing so hard as she was right then. Sucking the air in, slowly, steadily, filling her lungs and feeling her chest expand. Holding it. One. Two. Three. Four. Five. Then pushing it, gently out through between her lips, closing her eyes and feeling the cold breath on the back of her arm. In. Hold. Out. In. Hold. Out.
A knock on the door disturbed her. "Go away." Tam moaned, weakly.
Kenna laughed gently, and ignored Tam's wishes, pushing the door open tentatively. It was the first time she'd been in this home, the place her daughter had chosen to set up her life. And while she was midly impressed with the incubus' choice of decor she did wish that Autum would just come home and do this, Kenna thought she'd be more comfortable there. Edging in, quietly, she sat on the bed, and stroked Autumn's hair back off her face.
"What part of go away don't you get?" Tam muttered, but with little conviction.
"He's worried about you." Kenna confessed. "In fact, your father is pacing holes in one side of the room and Vikram has taken command of pacing the other side."
That made Tam smile, and she opened her eyes to meet the smile on her mothers face.
"Let him come and sit with you at least?" Kens pressed; "Then you can swear at him, and cuss him and blame him for all of this- trust me baby, it's fun. I broke your fathers hand in labour with you.." She regaled. "It made me feel ALOT better."
Autumn laughed, wetting her lips, and on cue Kenna passed her a bottle of water.
"Why don't we really go all out? Hmmm? Make Vikram feel really guilty and turn him into your slave? He could run you a bath?" Kenna offered further. "That'll help settle Jackie down, and might relax you a little bit?"
"ok." She whispered back, more about the bath bit than the slave bit.
"We could push this along for you Autumn- if you let us?"
"No, no mam. I don't want that."
Kenna bent and kissed her daughters forehead. "Your doing so well." She murmured, and went back through to the main room to give Vikram his orders.
