Name: Lonán ó Maoilriain
Age: 22
Birthday: December 21st
Race: Immortal
Species: Sidhe (common tongue); The Tuatha Dé Danann
Family:
Father- King Fionn
Mother Queen Aillean
Appearance:
The name Lonan is said to mean ‘Blackbird’, and apt term for the graceful, dark and dangerous Sidhe who bears the designation. With raven’s wing dark hair and eyes like the blackest waters of Lough Gur on the night of the seventh year, Lonan could not have been more handsome if designed by daVinci himself. A tall, graceful figure of long sturdy limb and sleek strength, he is also exceptionally fair of face and possesses the grace of a feline predator stalking its prey. His people are often titled as “The Lordly Ones”, and upon gazing on Lonan’s face it is easy to understand why.
Possessing a noble countenance and bearing, Lonan accentuates the darkness of his hair and eyes and the paleness of his skin through his penchant for dark, rich, but also functional clothing. Favouring inky blacks, muted purples and mossy greens, Lonan blends an aesthetic of quality and simplicity. Favouring well made clothing, weapons and tools, he displays few signs of vanity and displays little decoration or ‘shine’. His only claim to narcissism is an elegantly engraved silver locket worn on a long chain worn around his neck.
Celebrity Claim: Cillian Murphy
Personality:
Lonan is an enigmatic figure. Darkly handsome and unfailingly solicitous and proper, he gives little of himself away easily. A warrior and ruler of renowned repute, he carries himself with the dignity of his station but seemingly stands aloof from the baser of emotions and living complexities. He possesses a subtle elegance and dignity in his actions and interactions with others, but carries with him an edge of danger emanating from beneath his icy shell. Around him one is often unconsciously feels that they are balancing on a razor’s edge where one slip could result in a swift death at Lonan’s hand.
Despite this public and private facade, there are a small number of things known about the Sidhe Prince, among those who have heard of him. It is said that the Sidhe heir is intelligent, sharp and cunning, and enjoys both the pursuit of knowledge and art via the written word. He is also given to games of intrigue and skill, chess chief among them. Furthermore it is said that he is a steadfast companion to his fellow soldiers, and retains a small group of confidants which all hold as loyally to him as he does to them. Finally, it is whispered that the Prince is a great lover of the female sex; exceptionally skilled in both the art of courtship and the passion of the bedchamber. Many women have claimed to have been involved with him; however, Lonan is in truth quite selective with his bed partners, favouring quality over quantity in all areas of his life.
History:
Lonan was conceived on the night of Beltane and born premature to his royal parents on Midwinter night in the fabled land of Tír na nÓg, the land of “perpetual youth. His father and mother, King Fionn and Queen Aillean, who ruled over one of the mythical Sidhe tribes welcomed their first born son and only child with much joy on that long winter night. They had tried long and hard to conceive a babe of their own, but had failed to do so until they participated in a Beltaine right on a balmy evening thick with life and magic and came away blessed with a son.
The Tír na nÓg of Lonan’s youth was not all that different from the legends of mortals. A hidden island possessing the magic of perpetual life, it was a place where time moved differently. Each day of Lonan’s childhood seemed to last longer, the air sweet with the perfume of the honeysuckle that grew wild in the forests around his home. As time raced by in the world of mortals, Tír na nÓg remained, steadfast and unchanging as a haven for those select few who reached her shores. As Lonan grew he joined his father’s military forces, for though the island was a peaceful place, darkness still encroached from the world beyond and had to be forced back with knife and sword.
In his youth, Lonan was a child of pleasures and beauty, he took to arms with skill and responsibility, but felt little dedication for the role he had been tasked with- that of soldier and heir. Away from the practice courts and battlefields he indulged, in laughter and wine and women. But as with all men he was eventually felled- by the love of a woman. Dailoa was the daughter of another tribe, a warrior and ruler in her own right. Older by many years, she showered affection on her young and handsome lover and student, and Lonan learned much about sexuality, kingship and war craft. But unfortunately her affection, though deep, did not match the love in Lonan’s heart. When they parted, Dailoa turning to another young lover, Lonan was left alone and embittered of the female sex.
He threw himself into his craft, and has gained much recognition as a result. However, even the perpetual action of a soldier’s life could not burn out the emotion that drove him to near insanity. It was then he struck out on his own, fleeing the land of perpetual peace to escape his own demons. Leaving by the long and winding passage known only to those whose blood thrums with the power of the island, Lonan travelled widely. He trekked the worlds of immortals, finding the secret places and drinking in learning that will help him in the future. The Journey, like that all great heroes of lore undertake, changed him irrevocably. The flame of his passion cooled as the hothead young man who went mad for the love of a woman was replaced with the composed and serene Prince of the Sidhe now spoken of.
Now as his long Journey nears its conclusion, Lonan has come to Gaia in the hopes of finding true peace before he crosses the treacherous waters once more and returns to ‘The Land of Promise’, the soil of his birth, whose magic still calls to him like a hymn promising heaven and a peaceful eternity beneath his leafy boughs.
