Ben had been running, in fact he'd been up at dawn and he it was now lunch time and he hadn't stopped. His body was glistening with sweat, and half way through his brutal exercise he'd took off hs shirt and tied it into the back of his pants.
Exhausted he'd flopped down for a rest under the cover of the forest, listening to his heart pounding in his ears, as he got his breath back.

Isla had run away from home. With her pink knapsack she'd just run and run and run until her pudgy legs needed a break. Today had been a bad, bad day and she'd planned to go all the way to Sammy's house but then she decided to live in the woods by herself. Sniffling, she pulled a juice box from her bag and sat on a frost log, looting through her bag and pulled out a rice crispy square.

Ben smelt the food before he smelt the little girl, and his stomach grumbled. "Alright alright." He sighed, and dragged himself to his feet, mumbling to himself. He soon found the source of the sweet smell, and the distressed little girl. Ben dropped down beside her, sitting on the floor, looking up at her on the log. "Hey Brown Eyes, what happened?"

She looked up, bottom lip trembling. "Hi Uncle Ben." She said, "Would you like some of my 'mellow square?"

"God, yes please, I'm starving." He laughed, and because she still looked so sad, Ben pulled her into his arms, sitting her like a pixie on his lap. "Whats got you so sad?" He asked her.

She fed him a chunk and held up her juice box to him too. "Am I bad luck?"

"Dunno, did you break a mirror?" He asked her.

"No but Aunt Nina left." She took a bite and then put the rest of it in his hand, curling up against him. "Why do all my Mommies leave?"
