Sammy was sat by the window in the castle hall. Recently she'd turned sixteen, and been pretty much told it was time for her to get married to find a Prince who would benift her as a king. Sammy wasn't evn Queen yet, but the condition of her 'birth' the fact she was only an adopted royalty made the elders weary, and their solution to this 'problem' was to set a list of rules that Sammy had to follow. This Marriage was one of them. Usually royalty was exempt, but not Sammy.
She had seen three men so far, and men they were, all older than her. The first was a general in the army, a Lord Kirk, a tal, handsome man, with a strict military attitude. He'd also been about twenty years older than the rather frightened sixteen year old. The other two had followed the same sort of suit.
Yes Sammy was frightened, but the main reason for her fright, wasn't herself. It came in the form of the person she loved most. Parker. He'd been distant with her and she didn't blame him.
Her eyes came from the window, and as her thoughts went to him, so too did her eyes. He stood next to her Uncle Aaron, behind her Aunt Beth who sat on her throne. Sammy bit her lip and looked back down at the gardens outside, eyes back on the window frame. It wasn't fair that he had to watch - sometimes the Elders were cruel. Sammy's eyes widdened when her next suiter was announced. She recognised those eyes, the smirk that quipped the corner of his mouth. Though he looked different now, much older, much stronger. His posture no longer had a teenage slouch, but Nate stood tall, and tanned from the Italian sun. He wore a white uniform, but on its breast was a green lizard embroidered - his fathers symbol.
No one had seen Nate in...how long?
She nearly broke decorum, she nearly ran and hugged him, and Sammy had to stop herself exclaiming her exitement to see him. Of course, after the first shock, the reality hit her. Marry Nate? No!
Her eyes went to Parker a final time.
Nate bowed to the queen of Miriel and her advisors. "my lady, an honour" He spoke in drow, his hands neatly at his side as he straightened. At his side stood his father, older, with darker eyes and grey hair, and it became clear whose idea this was. Nates father was seaking power- finally his unwanted son had a purpose.

Parker had only been held back by Aaron the whole time. He had wanted to hurt each and everyone of them. The suitors had been old enough to be his Samantha's Father and he couldn't stand to see her given to one of them. All she wanted to do was touch her, stroke her dark hair and kiss her soft pale skin. He wanted to take her back to the apartment Ben had given him only short years ago and told her in their bed. But he couldn't. Aaron had made that implicitly clear. For the first time in all of their training, Parker hated this mentor. More than anything. He kept his eyes closed as each was brought up and introduced. Finally, the last one was Nate- His old friend. And he could feel himself start to change- "Milord." He murmured to Aaron, "I find it pressing to leave. May I be excused?"

"Get a hold on yourself." Aaron told him sharply.
"My lady, I would like to present my son-"
Sammy cut him off. "Nate?"
Nate's eyes went to Sam. 'Trust me' he mouthed, with that familiar smirk.
Sammy rose from her window seat, and moved to inspect Nate. It was the first time she'd even looked at one of them, those grouped as her 'suiters'. She touched his cheek. "you grew up without us."
It was becoming clear, by the irritation on his fathers face, that the older man didn't understand their English.

Parker growled, "Aaron, I can't." He began to pant a little. "Just dismiss me before I cause a scene."

Aaron turned to him, and saw his eyes. "Parker-" He sighed. "Go." He admitted him finally.
Sammy turned, catching the end of their conversation. She drew away from her guests, and her eyes went to her Aunt. "That's enough for today." She requested, though it wasnt such a request.

Parker took out of there and went into the gardens. As he went, he undid the high collar of his jacket, the cuffs of his sleeves. Anything to distract him. He stormed along the carefully manicured path and finally made it to a bridge- The one he and Sam had stood on last night. Not saying a word. Parker didn't know you could actually feel a heart break but his was being ripped apart.
Beth nodded and stood. "I would agree with my niece, my Lords. We have had enough work of the amorous nature to last us for today." She stood and took Samantha's hand, leading her out of the room. Behind her Aaron followed and she had told him to ask for Nate to follow along after the rest of the Court had dismissed.

Samantha kept her decorum the whole time she was in the presence of others, she kept the innocent, doll like expression, so we even conscious of the way her shift fell, the way her dress sat. It was needless to say Sammy had been taught well enough in everything she may ever need to know. But as the door closed, and it was just her Aunt and uncle she broke away from them. "I can't do this to him." she whispered, desperately, tears streaming down her cheeks, dislogging her perfectly structured makeup. "please you can't make me do this."
Nate, perhaps foolishly, went to find Parker.

The worst thing is, Parker could feel her crying. Ussta jallil- He cautioned in her head, If I could be there right now, I would. I would hold you until you stopped crying but I can't. I love you, Samantha.
