Kaine's growl sent a chill up Lexi's spine & she almost reacted the same way as the dog up the street. She took a step back & lowered her eyes, quickly back-pedaling.
"I'm sorry. Don't be angry, I just don't want to be alone again. I speak before thinking. My brother used to say it was my biggest fault. I'll try not to do it again. Can you explain what you mean please? I know how it would get me killed, but you seem pretty in control of yourself..."

She was naive. Jordyn decided she wasn't stupid, she was naive. Frowning for a moment she didn't answer her. Instead she knotted back her lightly sunblonde hair and gave the girl a mothering look, "How about you don't say anything at all for the next five minutes, then I'll answer all your questions?" She offered, and motioned the girl to follow her once more.
Jordyn wandered down the street, under the lowing orange street lamps. She seemed to know where she was going though. Leading them away from the street she walked them off the beaten track, the only sound was their footfalls, because even if the girl was talking Jordyn had completely blocked her out by now. Climbing over a sty and up a hilly path into the middle of no where, Jordyn moved with the ease of a twenty something year old when she was in fact twenty years older.
The grassy mound looked onto the back of the houses, and not too far away there were some teenagers smoking in he park area. Jordyn was content that they wouldnt be over heard here, after all humans only used 30% of their brains, their hearing was diabolical. She sat, feeling the dampness of the grass seeping into her jeans, and beckoned the girl to join her.

Well the fact Kaine didn't tear her head off & walk away, had Lexi breathing a sigh of relief & so she complied. She followed quickly but spoke not a word until she knew it was OK to sit, & even then, she had no idea where to start, so she said so.
"There are way too many questions for me to just pick one to start with, & I don't want to rattle off hundreds & seems even more like an idiot which I promise you, I'm not, so you can start by telling me whatever you feel comfortable, & I'll ask questions as you go. You're running the show after all. It seems I've got a lot to learn, so please teach. I wanna know all I can."

She started with a warning, it was the best place to go. "You might think your being super clever kiddo, but the people- the mortals they kill people like us. No, they do worse than that. They lock us up, experiement on us and then make us wish we were dead." there was something raw in jordyns voice as she spoke, but she spoke truthfully now they were away from the street. "They don't even need to know, they just need to expect, your not in cannis any more dorithy the second someone expects your not from oz you want to pray they let you die quickly."

Lexi heaved a heavy sigh. She realized she had to break her own rule right now. Give a little to get a little.
"I appreciate the warning, & I enjoyed the cute little popculture references but... oh what's that overused cliche... You're preaching to the choir. I'm well aware that the mortals kill outsiders, it's how I got here. They killed my older brother Declan. Or he sacrificed himself to save me. I still don't know what way to look at it."
She made eye contact with Kaine, but regretted it & looked away. Lexi was weak right now, & didn't want Kaine to see it. The memory was still too fresh, but maybe sharing it will help Lexi learn a way to keep ahead of the mortals & never have to go through something like that again.

"Yeh they took alot of the men from our family too." she nodded, share and share alike and all that. But Jordyn knew when not to go too far. Her eyes went down to the street below, watching the flickering street lamp. "Tell me where you came from." Jordyn offered.

"Yeh they took alot of the men from our family too." So she understood. Even though loss is tragic, it was kind of comforting in some small way to know that someone else felt the agony once that Lexi was currently holding in.
Talking about home was a different matter. How much to give away, how much to share. True, Mom, Dad & Owane were all safely away, but what if she ever needed to return? Would she even want to? She chided herself, remembering the tragedy that brought her here. Screw it, the whole village can rot.
"Small village north of here, called Duraun. Mostly farmers. Thought it was an OK place to grow up, I mean I had a happy childhood & all that. Thought we all took care of each other, you know? Like a community bond. Then Declan...so I ran, & now I'm here. Where is here exactly? I still don't know." She looked over both shoulders in turn.

Jordyn smiled at her gently. "I don't really know. Well I do know. I know where I'm am, I grew up here but it was such a long time ago that part of me doesnt want to remember being here. Last time I was in this village my family was whole." Share and share alike, sort of.
It was time to change the subject. They'd established she was here alone, and that they were both wolves with enough reason to be cautious. But was the girl part of a pack? How was she about to get this out of her without taking a painful walk down memory lane?
"So.....where are you going from here?" She asked her, gently.
